Effective 1 October 2016, transgender service members will be eligible to transition while serving in the military.
DODI 1300.28, In-service Transition for Transgender Service Members, dated 30 June 2016, DTM 16-005, Military Service of Transgender Service Members, dated 30 June 2016, ASD(HA) Guidance Memorandum, Guidance for Treatment for Gender Dysphoria for Active and Reserve Component Service Members, dated 29 July 2016, and the updated TRICARE Policy Manual, Chapter 7, Section 1.2, dated 6 September 2016, provide guidance to military healthcare providers on approved processing and treatment of transgender service members.
